I have two important daily reminders about some of my truths in my life – Alzheimers and Love. Each in their different ways, they remind me that life is short and to grab each moment with joyous abandon and run away with it, giggling with sheer delight.
I found the Sanskrit prayer below to be beautiful and true. I always think there is another day, another minute. I seem to forget that I am passing through, irrespective of my belief system that may or may not support the idea of past lives. I know I forget to live fully and put off doing the important things, like living as hard as I can with true abandon and total joy and loving the same way, until there is more ‘quality’ time, a better opportunity, a better day, better circumstances.
Knowing all this, I still find myself falling into unconsciousness and take my life – that is truly a privilege, my colour-filled tapestry - the people in my life - the time I have to live, with is limited according to the life span of the vessel I have been charged with caring for and - more importantly the people I share my heart with for granted, in that I always assumed they would be around to tell them that I love them, or fix things that are stretched badly or broken between us.
It’s an idiotic idea that I and they will live forever. How arrogant to think that, believe that, especially when all evidence shows undoubtedly that the vessel I am vested in right now is transient, impermanent and will die eventually.
So, I urge you to tell the people you love that you do love them even if they don’t seem to love you back, or it makes you feel foolish, or it’s scary for one or another reason. Remember, you might not pass that way again and passing the opportunity up might be something you put into the ‘always regret’ box. Always remember loving someone is a gift from the Highest, a privilege, not a right. Besides following a Divine instruction to love your neighbour as you love yourself, the act of being able to love someone fully and with joy, you are loving yourself.

Ancient Sanskrit Poem
Look to this dayNote: Love is a verb. I urge you to take life by the hand, along with love, and dance through the streets, the stars and traverse the Universe.
For it is life
The very life of life
In its brief course lie all
The realities and truths of existence
The joy of growth
The splendour of action
The glory of power
For yesterday is but a memory
And tomorrow is only a vision
But today well lived
Makes every yesterday a memory of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope
Look well, therefore to this day!
