As of this morning I am 1.4kg away from having lost 10kg in 6 weeks.
Remarkable. No, well yes, but not the weight loss itself. It’s remarkable because I have eaten like a queen for the last 6 weeks.
How did I do it?
BEFORE
I have tried this ‘trip’ a few times before, nothing major since I am not a yo-yo dieter – there is nothing more depressing to me than to constantly be on a diet and fall off the wagon – so I didn’t bother I just watched myself slide – beyond the field of myself – into oblivion.
Yes, I was an addict. I was addicted to sugar, caffeine, cheese, bread – all the quick things. You know it too, arrive home tired from work, too tired to do anything so grab a chunk of cheese, and have a piece of toast with coffee and two spoons of sugar. Shower, fall into bed, wake up at 1am because I’m hungry and head to the fridge. Oh yes, I was also smoking – not as much as I had been but still smoking.
No exercise was the cherry on this very fat-making cake.
If you follow this blog you will also know I went on the health goods spree and while they were good and I lost 2kg and detoxed, it was not long-lasting. The thing I learned from that was that my A- blood type likes more vege and salad. Something I didn’t like – lettuce leaves or as I refer to it ‘rabbit food’ is about as appealing as eating an old leather shoe.
NOW
To start, and we all know a good foundation is key, I had amazing support in the form of a human angel, who prepared and showed me how to prepare good, tasty food that fed my body instead of trapped it into vicious cycles of malnutrition that caused me to be overweight and starving while packing on the weight.
She did not say that I shouldn’t have anything (isn’t she clever!) and I elected to abandon coffee and sugar immediately. I even refused Xilitol (natural sugar substitute) – I was finally taking control, putting my hand up and saying, “Hello my name is Michelle Ashburner and I am FAT!” There was no huge applause, just a slight nod of the head and the smile of an angel. I felt good for taking the stand. But I had done that before and the fears starting rolling in as I lie in my bed that night.
Each day I would wake up, shower and by the time I came through to the dining room breakfast would be ready – I waived milk for that first week even though I could have some each day. When I did have milk again about 10 days later, I woke up the next day with such a headache and congested sinuses that I couldn’t face it again and so refused milk. Connie (my angel) then introduced me to Coconut milk, which was strange at first but not disgusting at all. Very rich so needed to be diluted a bit but there was no reaction and I feel great with it as a substitute. Now I find I can have small amounts of milk but I know instantly how much is enough for my system.
I had to get used to having breakfast, now I wonder how I will make it to ten o clock energy-wise if I don't have breakfast. At ten am its snack time, always something tasty – I have discovered that I love rice cakes with peanut butter on it – in fact I choose it over biltong and raisins. I’m now so hooked on healthy!
Lunch time, again 15 minutes and its fish with a quick yummy, yummy salad. Sometimes, it’s a salad with a protein of some kind in – you have to try Connie’s Prawn with Paw Paw salad (I will get the recipe and put it here sometime soon) – man! Does it rock! Then for dinner, maybe some steak and salad – all yummy, or soup with biltong (also a lovely combination for cold evenings).
I would stand and watch or help with the salad in the kitchen, always keeping a beady eye on how she was making these yummy dishes that I couldn’t believe belonged to an eating plan. But they do, and they work. And one last thing, a vitamin and omega pill in the morning with breakfast! Water is also key, how else will those fatty deposits be flushed!
When I started this plan, I thought 5kg in 5 weeks would be awesome. I didn’t want to stretch my capacity to bounce back from another disappointment, but when that first week was done and the first weigh in had happened and I had lost in the region of 2kg I knew that this was going to be different – my excitement mounted as I clicked my heels down the passage! Suddenly I was happy to peg my goal at an 8kg loss for the 6 weeks I was here. I am now as at the start of this blog 1.3kg away from a 10kg loss, I now have a lifestyle that I have lived for 6 weeks. I have been out, eaten out and not been in food jail. I have made the good choices.
I am blessed. I have had my angel supporting me, in an amazing place that has supported me to change my life on every level.
The point of all of this is that it can be done, no big secret, no special formula or pills, just correctly using and making tasty food. And of course someone to support you and shake the pom poms as you charge on to your goal!
Next goal: size 34! Photo's before and after will be shown when this is achieved!
